or, How to Jump Off a Cliff and Know You’ll Dive Safely into the Deep End | Do you need permission to be a writer? Here's some compelling proof you don't...
I started by writing for myself with no intent to share, but because I was inspired by other writers. Then eventually something triggered a need to share, first with a few close friends then Substack. I’ve called myself a writer off and on, but these days it’s becoming more consistent. Thanks for the encouragement!
That sounds like a great way to come around to it! I've said in these pages many times that you don't have to show anyone your work if you don't want to. In fact, going into a writing session with no expectation that *anyone* will read it is a good way to stop a lot of different writing fears from creeping in.
I always find it more productive to get excited about the time I can work on my novel than to fret about the time I *don't* have. Makes it easier, less stressful, and more enjoyable, too! (And, I tend to get more done...)

I'm checking out your Substack now...
Thank you. I needed this one! “I want to write!”
Thanks Laurie-Lyn - glad it helped!

Switching from "I have to write" to "I want to write" - love this point of view!
Yes, amazing that such a simple mindset change can make a huge difference!
