Most writers write for themselves. If other people like it it's just a bonus.

Yes, you need to please yourself first!

I'm also a firm believer in having your target reader in mind when you write. It's funny -- quite often that person looks a lot like me... lol

Such a powerful post! So true in all areas of our lives! What makes you an entrepreneur? The billion dollar valuation. What makes you an actor? The blockbuster movie. What makes you a chef? The Michelin star. But anyone who has success in their chosen field was unsuccessful prior to success! And they were the same person. So what if the book is not a « bestseller »?! Suddenly you didn’t write it? There is only one way not to be a this or a that, not doing it. You can’t be a writer without writing. But you can be a writer without success.

That's exactly right. There are so many too that have an even higher bar to success: must win an award, must have two bestsellers, must have three Michelin stars...

I say, let's make it easy on ourselves! Writers write.
