As an artist, I've done a lot of work on vulnerability (thank you, Brene Brown), but it is always a work in progress. I think of artists and writers who use pseudonyms instead, and I see the appeal of putting yourself out there while still keeping your true self private (Alice Cooper, Lady Gaga speak about this as an art form in itself). I started as a brand name before using my own name to get my feet wet. With social media, we are especially vulnerable to judgement. It's consistent work involving knowing who you are that helps process how you take the judgment/opinions/support (ei the good and the not so good! - both of which are necessary for growth. Imagine only receiving compliments? It would be lovely, yes, but it would feel disingenuous after a while, no?). I think if people haven't done the self-awareness work, it will be a rougher road. I would love your thoughts on using a pseudonym and these random thoughts lol :) Meanwhile, have a wonderful summer break!

If all you got was compliments, you would never learn where to improve! So although compliments *feel* good, they aren't necessarily *doing* any good.

Yeah, I like the idea of a pseudonym in general. You get to create a totally different persona. I used to love the idea of changing myself completely every few years and live a different life. Harder to do once the kids come around! But what a way to push yourself into trying new things!

Hope you're having a great summer too!

I liked the point of view on a "crutch". A temporary support, a sign of an upcoming recovery. Well said!
