Workshop Tuesday Night via Zoom
The Basics of Writing: A How-to Guide to Help You Start Writing Today!
Hi all,
How were your holidays? Nice and relaxing, I hope. We certainly needed a break this year!
This isn’t an official newsletter post – it’s a week early for that – but information about a workshop of mine you may be interested in.
About a year ago, I put together a workshop for one of my writing groups, the Northwestern Ontario Writers Workshop (NOWW). The workshop was called The Basics of Writing: A How-to Guide to Help You Start Writing Today! The initial idea was to help beginner writers learn where to start. It sounded easy enough, except that I quickly realized “the basics” really depended on what type of writing you did. Starting out as a poet is different than starting out as a short story writer or a non-fiction writer.
But I wondered – is there something that we all have in common? What I realized was, yes – a lot, actually! We all face the same common fears and doubts. More than that, it’s not just beginner writers who feel them, but writers of all experience levels.
That fun workshop became the seed for this SubStack newsletter.
Well, tomorrow night it all comes full circle. I’ll be presenting The Basics of Writing again in a Zoom session:
The Basics of Writing: A How-to Guide to Help You Start Writing Today!
Tuesday, January 4, 2022
7pm Eastern Time (6pm Central)
Cost: None

The workshop is open to the public for all to join and is funded through a generous Ontario Arts Council grant, so the workshop is free of charge to participants. (And for those of you who participated last year – this one is slightly different, thanks in large part to what I learned putting together this SubStack. It’s all becoming so meta...)
In any case, I’ve designed it to be an informative and motivating workshop for writers of all experience levels. Plus, here’s an opportunity for you who don’t know me personally to put a face to the name.
Hope to see you tomorrow night!

Rats, I missed this! Is there another upcoming?
