...or, All Touch, All Touch, and No Contact - a new documentary on Carole Pope made me reflect on my own artistic path. What sacrifices are you willing to make?
I was talking about that to a friend yesterday. Where would I be if I had written fiction full time after getting a story published in my mid-twenties (and being paid very well for it)? Would I be 'somewhere' or 'nowhere'? Maybe i would have given up entirely ... I certainly wouldn't have tried so many things, seen the world, met people, worked my ass off at so many things ... and i wouldn't be able to write about it now. Regrets are for dweebs.
Yeah, if anything, I'd like to live two lives -- do some A/B testing on my life to see what direction might be best. More out of curiosity than regrets.
Plus, you could double your lifespan... lol
Ultimately, I wouldn't change anything that would change the course of having our three sons though. There are always unintended side effects of every path chosen. Career changes would be good or bad, but losing other areas of my life would be gutting.
