Ugh. The bloom is definitely off the Substack rose. It might well be described as withering now... I understood when signing up that I would be held to their way of doing things. But those ways have changed, and not for the better. Substack is so convenient to use as a writer, but so frustrating to see what it does to the readers sometimes!
I know many writers who are abandonning Substack for other services. *This* is why...
I find the “Notes” part as disturbing as any other social media and am easing back on my use. It’s time for me as a reader to consider what I’m doing here. Sigh.
Hmm, maybe Lynne and NOWW could co-sponsor a “writing craft book club” in which we pick a craft book, read it and try out what it suggests maybe, and convene to see how/if it’s useful? Not sure how the money would work. We’d have to semi-commit to buying, I fear. Or could NOWW compensate for open hours by renting the space? 🤔
Love the idea! A group of us once planned a book club for King's "On Writing" but we never met to discuss.
The NOWW/Entershine partnership seems like an obvious one, but yes, there'd have to be something in for Entershine.
I'm not sure I could do this monthly, but maybe an ad hoc thing? We could also find elsewhere to discuss, like a coffeeshop or Mike's Roadhouse (that worked really well on Sunday, I thought!) Or Zoom, though I know not everyone is enamoured with staring into a computer screen...
Good! It could even be a discussion of the same book if it’s a classic or “if anybody has this can you bring it and give a summary” so we can SEE a book before ordering. Let the wheels turn.
Also Substack has moved every button and I didn’t want to subscribe
Didn’t want to UNsubscribe even autocorrect is fighting me today FFS
Thanks for re-subscribing! lol

Yes -- the rule in social media seems to be All Things that Converge Must Sink...
Here I am! Must. Not. Place. Order. At. Entershine.

But I probably will!
Ha - maybe we should get Lynne to bring in several copies...!
