My leaps come with a semblance of a parachute. I usually know when I sit down to write how the scene will start (or maybe I'm writing a scene way further down because I just had an idea that I didn't want to let escape). It's a bit of a trick ... don't stop a writing session with nothing in the tank.

Yes, a parachute can come in handy for hitting precise spots or slowing yourself down so you can pick up again tomorrow!

In general though, I try to just jump in to get the process started. I've been guilty of overthinking things before I act (inside and outside of writing...)
